Trailer parks should be on main roads - RDC

Truck trailer parks are better placed on the state highways in the Ruapehu District. That is the view of Ruapehu District councillors expressed at their meeting on Friday, when discussing Transit New Zealand's district programme and TNZ policy changes, which state that trailer parks are to be located on local roads, clear of State Highways. Cr Stuart Shaw said in Ruapehu there were several places where trailer parks could be set up on state highways, but very few on side roads. Also discussed was the district's road resealing programme. Roads engineer Jim Moore said the council was building up a data base over time, of when roads had been resealed so that a regular programme could be planned. He said at present records for the south of the district only go back five years. Reseals of roads would be done on average every 15 years, with high use roads up to every 1 0 years and low use roads every 17-18 years.
