Ruapehu summer promotion on track
The Summer Ruapehu marketing campaign coordinated- by the Ruapehu District Council is well advanced with the national distribution of the region's summer holiday brochure completed earlier last month. The brochures sell the region's summer tourist attractions and have been distributed to the North Island's main metropolitan areas targeting both the domestic and free independent travel markets. The council' s marketing manager Bruce Rollinson said the campaign is all about selling the activities
and attractions within the greater Ruapehu region. To achieve this the council held several meetings throughout the region involving the tourism industry and inviting them to participate in the campaign. This year the Council committed $ 1 0,000 to the summer promotion which is supported by industry participants to the level of a further $1 1 ,000. A new feature of this year's summer promotion is the supporting advertising features. Half page advertisements in both the New Zealand Herald and Dominion featuring the region's tourist attractions and par-
ticipating operators will run in December. The promotion also extends to a feature on the Radio New Zealand Tonight Show during
late November, December and January. Mr Rollinson said the success of these advertising features will be mea-
sured by the number of coupons returned to the region' s Visitor Centres seeking a copy of the Summer Ruapehu holiday brochure.
