$5000 for rest home coffers

Trust Bank Central has donated $5000 towards the Waimarino Rest Home project. This donation brings the total of monies and assets to approximately $40,000, bringing delight to the committee. Major funding for the proposed rest home has not been applied for at this stage but many avenues have and are being investigated, said a spokesperson. When plans are more definite the committee intends to hold a major fund raising effort within the Waimarino district as it will be for the use of all Waimarino people and not just Raetihi residents. The concept of the proposed rest home came from several Raetihi residents. A need was identified after Good Health Wanganui advised that the Waimarino Health Centre would no longer be available for geriatric care as it was not funded to cover this area of health. The area's elderly need to be looked after in their own area thus making it easier for not only for the elderly but families as well who would not have to travel out of the district and would be able to see their loved ones every day , says the committee. The bulk of the money raised so far has been from the Rest Home Shop in Raetihi, selling goods that have been donated, raffles, cakes etc. Other fund raising has been carried out i.e. batons-up, sausage sizzles, Ulysses motor bike rally, market day stalls. Recently a sausage sizzle was held in Ohakune for the Round the Mountain Run, which raised $ 1 50 thanks to the bread, sausages and trimmings all being donated. A cake stall was held last week in Ohakune which raised $384. Raffles on the day will be drawn prior to Christmas. Turn to Page 2

Rest home funds

From Page 1 Raetihi Market Day on 18 December, it is hoped, will raise another $500 with a cake stall at the Rest Home Shop. On Monday 20 December, the committee are putting on a "happy hour afternoon tea" 2-3pm at the Rest Home Shop in Raetihi , for all volunteers who have manned the shop so willingly over the last year and for the donors of goods for resale. Everyone is welcome.
