King Country cut-offs top in NZ

King Country Energy is understood to have the second highest number of disconnections for non-payment in the country - trailing only Bay of Island Electricity in the far north. General manager Peter Till says the disconnection figures reflect socio-economics of its customer base, as is the case in the north. Both power companies push pre-pay metering systems to assist regular defaulters to better budget their power use and, in King Country' s case, this has helped decrease the overall number of disconnections. More than 250 customers now use pre-pay card meters, about three percent of King Country' s total customer base.
