Board to decide on spending $98,000
Whether to go ahead with the old Waimarino District Council's reserves funds projects or look for new ways to spend the $98,000 available is now up to the Waimarino Community Board. The board discussed the
matter at their meeting last Thursday and decided they needed to be sure of the laws governing ways the money is allowed to be spent before making decisions. They asked for council officers to find the relevant legislation, which is
now part of the Resource Management Act. The money was raised from subdivisions in the area as cash contributions to local reserves in lieu of reserves land being given to the council. Board memb'er Bob Peck asked if the money could be used in other paris of the district such as Owhango orNationalPark after 1996, when the amalgamation orders expire. He was told it could. The Board heard that reserves funds expenditure on the Main Trunk Rail Ohakune projects had 'superseded' a number of
projects on the list (see last weeks' Bulletiri). Board members asked if the proposed Mainstreet projects would qualify. Mayor Garrick Workman said he could see no reason why they wouldn't
fit the criteria. Technical services director Bruce -Dobson said the criteria basically said the money had to be spent on 'reserves type projects' . He said it couldn't be spent on maintenance of reserves.
