Board agrees to buy out pensioner flats neighbour
Land between blocks of pensioner fiats in Seddon Street, Raetihi, should be bought by the council, the Waimarino Community Board decided at their last meeting. The board agreed that the property officer and the board 's chairman, Colin Webb, should be delegated the authority to negotiate with the owners of the property to secure the land. The landowner, who plans to move the present building from the site, has offered the land to the council for $7500, although the government valuation is $4000. There was some debate over how much the council should pay for the land. Board member Bob Peck agreed that it was important the council acquire the property but said it was "highly unlikely that a vaeant section in between two such properties (ihe pensioner flats) would attract thousands rushing to purchase it."
