History turns at Junction
It was test turn time at Ohakune Junction's train turntable yesterday afternoon, when Railways staff and Main Trunk Rail Ohakune gathered to try out the refurbished machine with a 90-tonne diesei locomotive. While it may now be some months before the turntable is used for a steam locomotive, MTRO's team led by Max Martin were well pleased ; with loco 51 20's quiet pirouette as a test run. Rebuilding the turntable, using the orginal cradle and recylced materials, started in April 1991. '
