Armistice Day, Her Excellency, the Governor General, Dame Catherine Tizard will lay a wreath in the Hallof Memories and then, assisted by 102-year-old Gallipoli veteran, Bill White of Upper Hutt, will plant a commemorative tree at the National War Memorial. In a great many centres, large and small, at Ilam church bells will peal and fire sirens sound ushering the old traditional one minute's silence in memory of the fallen, and local RSAs will mark the occasion with tree planting ceremonies at schools, services' cemeteries and war memorials.
