Saddle club open day attracts crowds

BY

JENELLE

FREWEN

The Waiouru Saddle Club had its annual open day last Sunday in the lead-up to the start of the new season. The club is run on army land but exists solely for the benefit of the Waiouru community. It provides an opportunity for both chil-

dren and adults to learn to ride or use the full facilities, including six horses, at minimal cost. All saddles, safety and tack items are provided by members' use, with annual subscriptions costing $65 "fbr individuals and $125 for families. The Waiouru Saddle Club also provides lessons for its members. This season's lessons will commence in the next couple of weeks for both children and adults and the cost of those lessons is included in the mem- . bership fee. Children as young as five can learn to ride. The lessons run for about 12 weeks, breaking for Christmas and include all facets of horsemanship - from catching the horses to grooming them, as well as learning to ride. The club encourages all adults to join and has all the facilities needed to cater for them too, and would welcome any assistance from those keen to help out with the supervision of the many children who will learn to ride this season.
