Turoa team tops

The annual 'grudge' match between Turoa Ski Resort and Whakapapa Ski Area for the Fergus Taylor Cup was closely fought both on and off the slopes last Tuesday, with Whakapapa eventually conceding defeat to a triumphant Turoa team. Thirty-five Whakapapa staff faced off against as many Turoa staff on the infamous Yahoo 'Fun For All' race course at Turoa. Each racer completed one run, with their times recorded and totalled for a combined time. The average time was then calculated, with the team with the lowest average time winning the event. Turoa recorded an average of 25.25 seconds, bettering Whakapapa's time of 26.91 by over a second. Turoa had a particularly successful day as they also won the Boat Races held at the Powderkeg later in the day. Turoa intends to run the event as a dual slalom next year, with the prizegiving and ensuing B-B-Q held earlier in the day to enable all competitors to attend.
