25 years recognised for Raetihi fireman

On Saturday 30 October Tom McCann received a Gold Star in recognition of 25 years service to the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade. United Fire Brigade Association president, Brian Stanley, presented the Gold Star to Mr McCann. Mr McCann also received a silver tray, silver goblets and a helmet in recognition of his achievement. Other guest speakers were Commander Smith from Palmerston North, second in charge, Alan Pidwell, from Wanganui; Raetihi fire chief Dave Griffin, Mayor Garrick Workman and a member
of the Wellington Provincial Fire Brigade Gold Star Association. Other honours presented on the same evening were a three year certificate each to Aaron McCann and Aaron Summerhays, a five year silver medal to Shane Griffin and a two year gold bar to Dave Griffin for 27 years service. Mr McCann took the opportunity to publically thank his wife for all her support throughout the years and also thanked those who attended the presentation evening. On the same evening, Mr Phillip Wilson of
Winstone Pulp International presented the Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigade with a socket set. Now that the brigade
have the socket set, their engine has gone up one grade and is now classed as a "Rescue Pump".
