Change of turntable plans
Ohakune's rail preservation group have had to change their plans slightly for the opening of the locomotive turntable on the last weekend of November. The original plan would have seen two Ka steam locomotives in Ohakune for the occasion, taking an estimated 1 000 passengers to the Grand Chateau for a buffet meal on Saturday 27 November. "Unfortunately this idea had to be scrapped due to the large number^ of people involved," said Main Trunk Rail Ohakune spokesman Bob Norling. "Plans are now underway that will see both trains stay in Ohakune for the opening bf the turntable on the afternoon of 27 November which will be followed by a carnival in the afternoon and a buffet and dance that evening."
