Ski brands tested by experts
Whakapapa ski area was the venue for a New Zealand first when 45 of the world' s leading brands of skis were tested by a team of experts over a period of three days. The task was a major undertaking for the nine volunteers: staff of Australian Skier and New Zealand Skier magazines, and Whakapapa ski instructors. NZ Skier editor Sally Woodfield said each set of skis were trialled over three runs ; approximately 40 minutes on Whakapapa Skifield's abundant spring snow. Triallists with a cross-section of abilities rated the skis on suitability and performance, including turning and handling. The trials were as much about ski performance as they were about verifying manufacturers' claims, said Ms Woodfield. The results of the trials will be detailed in upcoming editions and will offer a valuable insight for ski enthusiasts.
