Among the schedule of land use applications considered by Ruapehu District councillors at their meeting last week were several involving projects within the Ruapehu Bulletin readership area. They included: • An applicationby Kah (NZ) Ltd to erect a new wing to the Grand Chateau at Whakapapa Village. This

was notified on 3 September and submissions closed on 1 October. • An application to redevelop the Starline Service Station premises on the Parapara Road in Raetihi (approved). • An application by Rick Lucas HelicOpters Ltd to operate a helicopter sightseeing business from Thames St, Ohakune (pro-

ceeding). • An application by Roy Turners Ski Shop to erect a garage on a side yard in a commercial zone adjoining a residential zone in National Park (approved)> • An application by Ruapehu Radio to erect signs advertising the radio station at various sites (on hold). • An application from

New Zealand Rail to dump " soil north of Ohakune (proceeding). • An application by Black, Lang and Madden to erect an over-height house in Ti Kouka Place, Ohakune (on hold). • An application from M and B Webb to re-site an existing dwelling from Raetihi to a new location in Ruapehu Road (on hold).

In relation to re-siting of existing buildings Cr June Baker asked if Council had any control over landscaping and the type or standard of buildings. Town planner Geoff Page explained that while Council did not have any control over landscaping as such either with new or resited buildings it did have control over the type and

standard of re-sited buildings themselves. He bonds were collected from applicants wishing to re-site an existing building to ensure Council' s standards were met by upgrading all older buildings. Mayor Workman said there should be no problem with the application from M and B Webb because the building was a new one.
