Out of Town on Polling Day?

If you're going to be away from your electorate on polling day on Saturday 6 November, and think you're going to miss out on having your say, don't worry, everything is in hand. Local Returning Officer Mike Gavan wants to reassure any worried voters that the usual arrangements have been made for early o'r special voting for this year' s election and parliamentary referendum. Special votes can be cast at the Ohakune Service Centre, Miro St., between 9.30am and 12.00pm Monday to Friday, from 20 October, or at the District Court, Miriama St., Taumarunui 9.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday. 'To be eligible to cast a special vote you need to be away from your electorate or New Zealand on polling day, unable to get to a polling place through illness or infirmity, or through pregnancy or recent childbirth, or if voting on a Saturday is against your religion." "We'll also be getting out to places such as hospitals, maternity and rest homes, to help those who have special needs," said Mr Gavan. If you need further information on special voting or any other aspect of voting call the Voter Information Hotline on 0800 73 1993, Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 8.00pm.
