New growth name wanted
The Ruapehu South Business Association is seeking a new name for their proposed community growth, development and promotion project presently known as 'Mainstreet'. For various reasons the title 'Mainstreet' (which is used by other centres both here and in Australia) has to be changed so, at their meeting last week, RSB A decided the required name change would provide an ideal opportunity to replace the original title with some word or short phrase that would better reflect the Waimarino/Ohakune/Raetihi area and the unique historical, cultural and geographical characteristics of this region and its community. It was decided to seek local support in finding a suitable name or phrase for this community growth and development project which is designed to enhance and promote the image of the area. The winner of the chosen caption/ slogan will be rewarded with a dinner for two at a local restaurant as well as a complimentary bottle of wine. A similar prize will be awarded to anyone who submits a suitable logo which can be used in a wide variety of ways including stationery, newspaper advertising, flags, banners, badges etc. Submissions must be made to the Ruapehu Visitor Centre in Ohakune and should be received no later than Monday 1 December. In the case of the logo only a rough sketch of the proposed idea or design is required at this stage.
