Brownies celebrate 75th birthday

The Brownies turned 75 this year and to celebrate the 31st Manawatu Brownies of Waiouru, along with around 500 other Manawatu province girls, attended a pack holiday last weekend. The contingent, numbering around 700 including leaders, spent the weekend on the Ratana Marae, south of Wanganui, being housed in dormitories which held 200. During the weekend the Brownies were taken back to the early years learning how to use Oldfashioned washing boards and pedal sewing machines as well as learning some early crafts and songs. The 15 girls from Waiouru who attended all thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and while there also earned a 75th Birthday badge. Brownie Leader Sharon Aston feels it is important to take the girls away to these kinds of events and tries to at least three trips away each year. The Waiouru Pack also had their own Celebration of the B rownies birthday last Wednesday, making friendship link necklaces and receiving birthday celebration cards.
