Raetihi playground revamp soon
Raetihi' s playground is set for its revamp following an on-site meeting between the Waimarino Health Watch Committee and Ruapehu District Council staff. At the meeting, it was decided the board would provide a list of new equipment required, in priority order. The equipment requested would cost about $10,500 installed, which is roughly the amount available for the project, according to a report to the Waimarino Community Board to be considered at their meeting this Thursday. Equipment requested, in priority order, is: double wave slide, track ride, zig-zag ladder, clatterbridge, suspendedbalancebeam, arch climber, wave climber, chain net climber, corkscrew climber, spiral climber. All the equipment would be sited in a bark-covered area with subsurface drains. The old seesaws would remain as would the swings which would be
modified to two swings to meet safety standards. An existing concrete area could be converted into a table/chair area with possibly a light and/or covered area for shade and shelter. Jubilee Park Also planned for upgrading is the equipment at Jubilee Park in Ohakune, with $10,000 available in the budget. Planned at this stage is upgrading work to meet new safety standards. The swings would be altered similar to Raetihi ' s; the fort would have the pole removed, the hole in the floor covered and the ladder altered; the rocking horse would be repaired; and the large rocker would be removed as it has a number of unsafe features which would be difficult to modify. Also covered in the report are the Raetihi playing fields, which have problems in wet winter weather. Playing field layout changes are recommended in the report, prepared by council engineer Jim Moore.
