No doubt trout about
Two hundred two-year-old trout were liberated into Lakes Reserve on Friday, ready for the season's new anglers. The trout fishing season in the area opened on 1 October.
Most of the trout, from the Turangi Trout Hatchery, are of a takeable size and are put into the lake mainly for children and adults who are just starting out in the sport.
Two weeks ago 300 one-yeiar-old trout were released into Rotokuru Lake at Karioi. Some of the fish are of a takeable size now, and with 300 similar fish liberated there last year, the lake
is now providing good fishing. Because of the access to the lake, Taranaki Fish and Game Council staff have to use a motorbike and trailer to get the fish up to the lake.
Old cream cans on the trailer were used to carry the fish, which were raised in the Hawera Trout Hatchery. Today, 50 trout are to be liberated into the dam behind the Kaitieki School.
Garden workers • The employers contract act has brought into the Waimarino market gardens a new group of Indian workers who have to take what is offered. As an oldie who has brought my family up in the market garden era of the 60's, 70's and 80's which brought the gardens up to their present state, not the Indian workers who were unheard of. Today they are preferred more than our lo-
cal workers holding on to their jobs. Why? Is it an employers preference to one kind of worker? The Employers Contract Act may kill the goose that laid the golden egg. J J Waerea. Helicopter helmet • Can I through your
columns advise the owners of the yellow, silver, green, pink and blue helicopters over-flying my property that the next time they do so they may well be attacked by hand-thrown cardboard Police helmets! The same action will be taken against burglars! Clyde Olsen PS. Banks, grow up or please go back to catering.
