Drink-drive accidents perturb police

Four motor vehicle accidents in the past week, all alcohol related and involving local people, have perturbed Ohakune Police. Ohakune Police Sergeant Bob Evans, said he is amazed that locals could have forgotten last month ' s horrific collision with the death of six Waimarino residents, so soon. • On Friday 1 October, police attended an accident south of Raetihi. A mini with two occupants ap-

proaching Raetihi from Wanganui lostcontrol at the Banana Bridge on the Parapara Highway. Both people were taken to Waimarino Health Centre with minor injuries, .treated and discharged. • A police patrol gave chase to a vehicle at around 5am on Saturday morning, when the driver declined to stop at the intersection of Ruapehu and Dreadnought Roads. The chase ended when the driver lost control

and ran into a tree. The 38-year old local man faces dangerous driving and excess breath alcohol charges. • A van being driven south along Miro Street, Ohakune, at around 1 am on Monday struck a parked vehicle before running into a power pole. Both vehicles

were extensively damaged. Police enquiries are continuing. • A Miro Street residence was burgled sometimebetween 1 1 .30am-4pm on Wednesday 29 September. A video recorder, skis, ski jacket and Turoa staff pass were stolen. • A small window was

broken at Buck's Drapery, Clyde Street, Ohakune, at around 4am Friday. Offenders made off when the security alarm was activated. •Two vehicles were stolen in Ohakune on Friday night. A Toyota Corolla stolen from Mangateitei Road was recovered with broken Turn Page Four

From Page Three windows on the same day. A Mazda 929 station wagon is yet to be recovered. • Sometime Friday morning the offices of Telecom in Clyde Street, Ohakune, were broken into. Police are still compiling a list of stolen property. • Ohakune Police attended an accident involving a laden Kenworth logging truck east of the Karioi Forestry on Saturday morning. The driver of the truck failed to negotiate a bend, with the truck ending up on its side. The truck and adjacent property were extensively damaged, with the driver receiving minor injuries. The accident is the fourth such incident in as many

months. Police are to present a report to the New Zealand Roading Commission and request further speed restrictions to that particular section of road. • Overnight Friday 1 October, a locked car parked in Conway Street was entered by unknown means and two pair of skis stolen. Police enquiries are continuing. • On the same night a vehicle parked outside the Powderkeg at Ohakune Junction was entered and a pair of skis stolen. They were later recovered and retumed to the owner. • Overnight Saturday, extensive damage was caused to vehicles and a building housed in Taura' s metal pit on Old Station Road.
