Duane Dixon throws those 220cm downhill racing skis into a jump turn round Ruapehu rocks in Turoa's South East Basin. It's not the usual useage for such skis, but when you've been fooling around on snow since buckle-high to a leather ski boot you're always looking for new challenges! Duane will be challenged this week when he defends his title of New Zealand's fastest firefighter on skis in the New Zealand Fire Fighters' Ski Campionships at Turoa. Whakapapa is also hosting races this week, with more than 500 young skiers taking part in the North Island Secondary School Ski Champs.
