What's so good about spring?

B Y JENELLE FREWEN For many, the end of winter also spells the end of the ski season. At Turoa however, the opposite is true with the spring offering possibly the best skiing to be had all year. Turoa Ski Resort touts itself as having the best spring skiing in the country. Staff say their fields are ideally situated to take advantage of the warmer temperatures for spring skimg. Ideal conditions are

created after an overnight freeze. With the sun not hitting the slopes till around midday, the snow stays in better condition. Corn snow on a hard base is the easiest to ski on and is dubbed "ego snow" by Turoa staff. Turoa's south-westerly aspect allows for a lot more off-piste skiing and the possibility of going "way out west", one staff member said. Spring time also hails m daylight savings and the

availability of Friday night twilight skiing at Turoa beginning on 8 October. People can ski all day for $42 from midday until 6pm for $34. Turoa is also holding several events throughout spring including the 'Peak to Powderkeg' race on 11 October, a Turoa Cardholder's $1 day on Monday 4 October, and Yeti Club members skiing for free on Friday 8 October.
