Waimarino spring show
BY Shelly Shearsby A storm just days before did not affect the quality of entries in the Raetihi Garden Club's Spring Show held on Thursday 16 September at the Waimarino Club Hall. "We were very pleased with the high standard and quality of the entries considering the storm," said organiser Locheen Punch "and the public gave us good support."
Sue Deadman from Karioi and Lyndy Graham from Ruatiti won two cups each. "They are both very keen gardeners and Lyndy is a very hard worker and she has been justly rewarded," said Mrs Punch. The show is something that the community looks for ward to every year and it is also the main source of income for the Raetihi Garden Club. Last spring the Garden Club used proceeds to buy trees for the hospital, local schools and pensioner flats. The Garden Club is also donating a seat to the pensioner flats for their barbecue area. The garden club also spends time promoting gardens and not only do they have shows but they also have a town and country civic pride awards where they judge gardens from the street. They pick the best garden in November and
February of each year. Members of the Raetihi Garden Club go on trips to other gardens and they are planning on
going to Taumarunui to the Spring Garden Tours put on by the Rotary Club of Taumarunui from 2931 October.
