Around 50 Waimarino women attended a combined worship service to commemorate Women 's Suffrage Year on Sunday night at the Ohakune Presbyterian Church. Those that attended read a collection of bible passages and poems specially selected to mark the occasion - one being the Song For Suffrage Celebration hymn written specifically for Women's Suffrage Year. Written material outlining the work of such prominent New Zealand suffragettes as Kate Sheppard and Meri Te Tai Mangakahia was on hand for perusal after the service A modern verse entitled 'In Praise of the Humble Women Who Raised Us' echoed the Christian theme in a celebration of all women.
