Raetihi pub challenge proves popular

The fxrst night of the Ultimate Lion Red Challenge proved very successful with the 8-ball competition on Tuesday 7 September at the Ruapehu Hotel in Raetihi. "There was an excellent turn-out for the first night of competition and we are still receiving

good feed-back", organiser Steve Gray said, Steve Gray and Rona Te Huia are behind the Ultimate Lion Red Challenge and they are pleased with the result, they are now hoping to have another event before the end of the year. The competition is based on pairs but a third person could be

registered so that if one member of the team was unable to participate in a particular event the third person could stand in. The aim was a competitive yet fun and friendly event. With the Karaoke, a song name is drawn out of a barrel and whoever is next has to sing that song. That way they will be judged on their overall musical

ability rather than on how well they can sing one or two songs. The euchre competition could be interesting as organisers have heard that some teams 'really know how to deal*. "But rest assured any hint of a team involved in cheating or unfair tactics will be asked to remove themselves from the

competition", said Steve. The organisers don't expect any type of foul play by anyone involved in the Ultimate Challenge. Eveh though the 8-hall competition held last Tuesday took a long time due to the number of competitors, fun appeared to be had by all and it resulted in a first-equal tie between two teams.

Two dozen cans of Lion Red were given away on the first night of competition. Competitors tried for the highest score on the dart-board which was available for one hour at no cost. The prize money for the Ultimate Challenge is: first $300, second $150, third a meal for two. There will also be

various other prizes to be won throughout the competition. Some competitors may get their entry fee money back. Tonight at 6.30pm the same teams will be competing in euchre and next Tuesday in darts. The final night of the Ultimate Challenge on Saturday 25 September is expected to be the best in entertainment.
