Raetihi groups to join forces
A meeting is to be held next Monday at the Raetihi Fire Station hall in an effort to have the Raetihi Promotions Group and the Raetihi Business Association join forces. "Raetihi is too small for two groups and although the promotions group was originally started from a businessmen's association meeting, they have grown apart," said promotions group secretary Bemice Frost. Chairman of the promotions groups John Dobson is keen to get the two group back together for the betterment of Raetihi. Both groups have worked in various ways for the betterment of Raetihi, with the business association running the annual Christmas market day along with children's activities, and supporting various market days. The promotions group set up the Information Centre and in the process providnig one full time job in the town; the Ameku Road walkway; the demolition of the old blue butchery building in Seddon Street through putting pressure on the Ruapehu District Council for some action; andpainting of someof the Seddon Street buildings thatneeded some care. "Through the information centre we realised what our town needed and was amazed at the number of visitors seeking things to do and places to stay," said Mrs Frost. "The old dairy factory near the bridse is not quite finished but it is vastlv inmroved.
Thanks to the Perkins family making an excellent effort one of our lovely old buildings is tidied up." Raetihi is working in cooperation with Ohakune on the Mainstreet programme and needs a concerted effort to get behind it.
