Waiouru boy drowns in creek

A three-year-old W aiouru boy was tragically drowned last Thursday in a creek to the rear of Campbell Crescent. Christopher Gordon Jenkinson was found lying in the water at 5pm by a soldier out running. Attempts to revive the boy were made by two other passers-by prior to the arrival of a trauma team. The boy was taken immediately to Waiouru Hospital and thcn flown to Palmerston North for further treatment. He was pronounced dead at 7.30pm.that evening. Similar accident A similar incident occurred in June this year when another three-year-old boy was nearly drowned approximately 100 metres away. Police expressed very high praise for the actions of the three soldiers who found Christopher and for the efforts of the trauma team. Investig ations have commenced into the drowning which will go towards a coroner's inquest. The Army is also conducting its own Court of Inquiry. A memorial service is to be held for Christopher in Waiouru on Thursday.
