Mayor aims to work with CHE

Ruapehu Mayor Garrick Workman is to meet with Good Health Wanganui board chairman Dennis Woods and chief executive Ron Janes to discuss future health services for the Waimarino with funding in conjunction with the Ruapehu District Council. (see front page story). "In the past the local authority has been involved with funding for health facilities, when the Raetihi Borough Council helped raise funds for a doctor's surgery and residence," said mayor Workman. "There's no reason why that can't happen again." He said he wants to see the local community work with the CHE towards improved health services. "It's far better to work with the CHE towards a satisfactory outcome in commercial terms for them, while at the same time coming up with an acceptable level of services for the community here." He reiterated the point that the CHE board would be making decisions regarding health facilities in this area and not the chief executive, Ron Janes, although Mr Janes would be making recommendations to the board.
