closed both days of the weekend, with 30cm of new snow falling in a 24hour period. Saturday's Cricket in the Snow with Martin Crowe was postponed due to the conditions. Turoa officials say they hope to hold the event later in the season but have yet to confirm the date. The weekend 's scheduled live music has been
re-scheduled to Saturday, 2 October. Over 80 children helped Yeti celebrate his birthday at Turoa Lodge on Sunday. Also in attendance was 'Mushroom' the Clown, who entertained children with a variety of party games. Yeti's cake, supplied by Nation's Skier's Inn, was enjoy ed by all in attendance (and equally
enjoyed by Turoa mountain staff for breakfast Monday morning.) Yeti's Treasure Hunt will be happening this Thursday 9 September (weather permitting), at the Top of the Park Lane Chair. Whakapapa Around 2000 visitors to Whakapapa Skifield on Saturday enjoyed the 32cm dumping of new
snow over the entire ski field. Another 20 cm fell ovemight Sunday, leaving drifts of up to two metres in depth in some areas. Limited facilities were operational on Saturday and Sunday, with high winds and heavy snow closing the field on Sunday afternoon. The weekend 's Coca Cola Fireworks display has been Dosttxmed until
this Saturday, 11 September. Whakapapa Promotions Manager, Scott Lee, is more than happy with the feed-back from recent television advertising undertaken by Ruapehu Alpine Lifts. Mr Lee said the $30,000 spent by the company on promoting Whakapapa has been money well spent, with
very positive feed-back from both the public and the ski industry, and a definite increase in skiers and visitors to the slopes. The ad, featuring Scott Lee arm-pit deep in snow and expounding the delights of the skifield, was featured on all three channels. There is the possibility of a second ad being aired which may run during the spring.
