Local women profiled for suffrage year

Women's Suffrage Year is being celebrated with gusto by Waimarino women, with a variety of . activities and events planned in the region between now and the end of the year. Starting this week in the Ruapehu Bulletin is the first of a series of articles outlining the achievements of talented local women. This week, young athletes Carys Hubbard and Lisa Norling. Carys Hubbard D.O.B: 3/8/74 • Education: Ohakune Primary School, 1979-85; Ruapehu College, 198690; Waikato Polytechnic, 1991-93 (still in attendance and pursuing a sports science course). • Cultural/sporting activities: gymnastics,

1979-89; ballet and modem dance, 1980-88; bodybuilding, 1991-1993 (still in attendance). • Sporting achievements: gymnastics - North Island champion (Grade 3), 1986; New Zealand

representative, Perth, 1988; New Zealand representative, Sydney, 1989. Body-building: North Island champion, Junior Women (under 21), 1992. Lisa Norling D.O.B. 15/12/70 - • Education: Ohakune Primary School, 1975-83; Ruapehu College, 198384; Wellington Girl's High School, 1985-87. • Dance history: New Zealand School of Dance, 1988 and 1989.; practical technical class in classical ballet and contemporary; theoretical classes in anatomy, music and dance history. • Dance qualifications: British Ballet Organisation - six years to intermediate level; ISTD .Modern Dance - four years to intermediate level; ISTD National - one

year to intermediate level; Royal Academy of Dance - five years and gained advanced examination. Throughout High School, Lisa studied simultaneously at the New Zealand School of. Dance. • Employment: Footnote Dance Company since 1990 with a number of the country's leading choreographers including Mary-Jane O'Reilly, Duncan McFarlane and Anne Dewey. Performed at the Auckland Commonwealth Games closing ceremony in 1990. - Currently performing with former artistic direc•tor of the New Zealand Ballet Company, Harry Haythorn. - Currently studying for a certificate in recreation and sport.
