Power men 'environmentally friendly'
The Department of Conservation last week presented a conservation award to King Country Energy lines staff for the role they played in the successful completion of the on-ground cable laying project between Whakapapa and Iwikau village and on Whakapapa Skifield. "The work was carried out over the past two summers with minimal damage to park environment which was only achieved through the high level of support from the linesmen for the Department of Conservation's airps.and requirements," said Russell Montgomery,
Field Centre Manager for DoC. The award is in the form of a plaque and recognises the efforts of both the line staff and the company to meet envi-
ronmental requirements completely inside a National Park. The award ceremony was held at the King Country Energy Depot, Hospital Hill,
Taumarunui, on Thursday 2 September at 3pm, when Mr Paul Green, Regional Conservator for the Department of Conservation, made the presentation.
