Queen's chain

• I am writing with regard to the Govemment's Conservation AmendI ment Bill (no 2) - the Queen's Chain. If Conservation Minister ; Denis Marshall has his way the traditional rights of New Zealanders to free j access to public lands, rivers, beaches and lakes will come to an end. The Queen's Chain of 20 metres that currently exists, will die. The 1 Govemment's proposed bill will pave the way to private control. You will pay up or keep out. Private reserves are to be vested in private hands and the public shut out.

As a New Zealander this Amendment Bill absolutely abhors me. We will end up like Britain where people have to pay amounts like £50,000 to lease a mile of river for ten year's fishing. We must do something to prevent the Govemment from passing this bill. Write to your local MP or the Minister of Conservation and the newspapers. Object now, or we as New Zealanders will lose the right to something that is ours. Do not let the Govemment make us pay! Let's keep the Queen's Chain!.
