Power supply more reliable

July proved an excellent month for King Country Energy customers for supply reliability. In a better-than-average July, the number of minutes any of the company 's 12,306 customers were without power was 1.33 minutes. The worst outage of the month occurred at Mt Ruapehu on 14 July, when 91 customers lost supply for 45 minutes because of a possum. Four Lake Rotaira properties were without power overnight on 13 July, when equipment failure cut their supply from 6.15pm until Ilam the next day. The 1993/94 average for outages is showing a marked improvement on recent years, falling to less than half the average for the period 1990/93. Also improving overall are King Country Energy 's disconnection statistics for nonpayment, although the 47 in July are higher than recent months. From 1990 - 93, 48.72 customers per month on average were disconnected for nonpayment. So far this financial year the average is 32 disconnections per month.
