Top honour for Lion
Former Ruapehu Lions Club president and member, Ian Strachan, was the recipient of the highest honour confirmed by Lions International at the club's regular monthly meeting, held last week. Mr Strachan, a Ruapehu Lions Club member for 27 years, was a recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, in recognition of his longstanding and untiring contribution to the Lions of District 202D. The Melvin Jones Award is an international recognition and is presented in memory of the founder of Lions Club International, Melvin Jones who, in 1917 spearheaded the first Lions meeting. Immediate Past District Govemor Buster Curson presented Mr Strachan with the recognition plaque, with Past District Govemor Kelvin Ellery - himself a Melvin Jones Fellow - presenting Lion Ian with a special lapel pin.
