Daffodil money stays here
This Friday 28 August is National Daffodil Day, raising money for the Cancer Society and cancer research in New Zealand. In the Waimarino area, the local cancer support group is holding a cake stall outside Ohakune New World supermarket at 9am, and a flower stall in Seddon Street, Raetihi. Waimarino cancer support co-ordinator Betty Longcroft, said funds raised will be forwarded to the regional office in Wanganui for dispersal throughout the area.
A member of the group for the past five years, Mrs Longcroft said she is delighted by the level of support for the Cancer Society in the Waimarino. "In previous years we have done very well", she said. "People in this area are very caring and generous. It's marvellous to get this level of support." Support comes in all forms - sometimes in the shape of orthopedic mattresses for special needs patients; sometimes as food donations, and other times as petrol vouchers. Petrol vouchers are es-
pecially welcomed by families of cancer patients in the Waimarino who are forced to travel to centres such as Hamilton and Wellington, to receive the specialised treatment and care for their condition. The Waimarino Cancer Support Group is presently supporting
around 12 patients and their families. The staff of the Ruapehu Bulletin urge Waimarino residents to get in behind this Friday' s cause. Support Daffodil Day and help someone you know lead a quality life.
