Rail building moved

The former Rangataua Trust Store has taken on a new life as workshop and storage shed in Main Trunk Rail Ohakune's railway village at the Ohakune Junction. The 50-year old building began life as an equipment store for regional stations on the Main Trunk and doubled as a storage shed

for signals equipment. In 1965 it was moved to Waiouru and used by the NZ Army as a storage facility. In the 1980's it was taken over by Winstone Pulp Mill to store equipment. MTRO saw the potential of the authentic railway building and decided

that the building had to be saved. Long term plans include converting it into a railway museum - a first for the main trunk. Read Building Relocators of Taupo transferred the building to its present site in the Ohakune railway yards.
