College sets up weather station
Ruapehu College's newly established climate station is endeavouring to ensure accurate measurements and figures concerning the Waimarino 's weather are duly recorded. A daily reading of the various pieces of delicate equipment is conducted by science teacher David Taylor, with results for-
warded to the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in Wellington - formerly the NZ Meteorological Service. As from 1 August maximum and minimum grass temperatures, humidity, soil temperature and rainfall readings have been meticulously recorded. Readings are
taken every 24 hours, between 8-8.30am. Mr Taylor said the facility is providing a much needed community service, as well as bringing a new branch of science to Ruapehu College students. from the climate station will be a regular feature in the Ruapehu Bulletin as from this week. Readings from climate station at 8 am, for the
week 16-23 August: maximum temperature (degrees celcius) 8.0, 6.3, 8.8, 9.5, 5.5, 8.9, 10.6, 8.2; minimum temperature: 0.9, -3.2, 0.7, 1.4, - 2.9, 3.7, 4.4, 0.1; grass temperature: 1.2, -6.1, - 1.0, -1.1, -5.5, 2.0, 0.4, - 2.7; rainfall (millimetres): 19.1, 0.0, 8.7, 2.3, 0.05, 2.98, 2.88, 2.79; relative humidity: 96%, 89%, 98%, 84%, 90%, 80%, 88%, 92%.
