Country life for constable

Raetihi's new resident constable, Steve Hart, is well-accustomed to rural life. The officer left a five and a half year stint as Officer in Charge of Patea Police Station, to take up the Raetihi posting. Before that he was a member of the police contingent in Hawera. Constable Hart admits to being a fan of closeknit rural communities and says the warm reception he and his family received from the community of Raetihi merely endorses his opinion. He and his wife Koebi and their two children, Anton 16 and Tayla 5, arrived in the area at the end of last month. The couple have wasted no time in becoming part of their new community. As well as handling station duties, Koebi has taken on twice weekly Bible classes at both Raetihi and Rangataua Schools. One of Constable Hart's first objectives is to instigate a grid of neighbourhood and rural support groups throughout the region, in an effort to curb the escalating incidences of rural burglaries. A support scheme undertaken by him in Patea operated in conjunction

with the region's Federated Farmers group and enjoyed huge success.

Residents who may be interested in farming a support group in their area

should contact Constable Hart at the Raetihi Police Station.
