League sponsors

The Rugby League competition from this re-

gion got a further shot in the arm last week with a donation of $3000 from the Oasis Hotel of Waiouru. The money will go towards the development of Junior Rugby League, as well as travel expenses and purchase of new equipment, Bobcat President Nigel Shields said. The Bobcats are able to field teams in every grade of competition from Under Sevens to Premiers. This means that around 50-60 children and 100 adults play Rugby League from this region, making competition very strong. Several Bobcat players have gone on to play for the Kiwi Colts. The support for Rugby League has been growing steadily in this area since the Bobcats won the final of the Manawatu competition in 1991. The Premier team has also

made it into the top five this year and last, having received generous sponsorship from the Oasis for both years. Not only does the Hotel give donations but also makes a venue available for use as a club facility. The Oasis frequently holds discos to raise funds for the Bobcats and also provides after-match meals at the Bojangles Restaurant for visiting teams. The Oasis is committed to offering support for local clubs and this week starts a Pub Trivia Competition, running every Tuesday night for 12 weeks. All sports teams and social clubs are invited to enter and be in the running for a weekly draw of $100 as well as the possibility of winning other cash prizes.
