• Ohakune Police are investigating the burglary of a ski chalet in Ballance Street, Raetihi. Food, clothing and ski wear was taken in the break-in. • An Arawa Street, Ohakune, resident awoke Sunday moming to find her car had been rearended some time during the night. Police are following several lines of enquiry. • A fracas outside the Powderkeg Inn at around 12.30am on Sunday moming resulted in several local people being spoken to in relation to the incident. Several windows were smashed. • A local man has been arrested and charged with intent to injure his partner after an incident at a Conway Street, Ohakune, address during the early hours of Sunday moming. He will appear in the Wanganui District Court to face charges. • Police attended a one vehicle accident at Tangiwai last week. The vehicle rolled on the stretch of road adjacent to Winpulp International. The driver of the vehicle is to face consiquential breath alcohol charges. • A Nitro-fusion snowboard, 66cm in size and coloured purple and
black was stolen from the seat of a Honda Prelude parked outside the Ruapehu Hotel in Seddon Steet, Raetihi, at around 6.30pm on Saturday night. Enquiries are continuing into the theft. • A Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from a Miro Street, Ohakune address on Thursday 5 August. • Ohakune Police have in their poseSsion an item of property that was recovered near the Ohakune Bowling Club two and a half weeks ago. The item is a small velvet jewellery box, red, rectangular, with rounded ends. The jewellery box contains several valuable items of jewellery. The item may be identified and claimed at the Ohakune Police Station. • Ovemight Sunday 8 August, a rental car parked behind the Ohakune Hotel in Clyde Street was broken into. Nothing was stolen. + A second vehicle parked in front of the Ohakune Hotel ovemight was broken into and hotwired. It was later recovered in Miro Street. A Turoa Ski Resort season pass and wallet were stolen. Enquiries are continuing. • A Sims snowboard,
cash, clothing and numerous compact discs were some of the items stolen from a Foyle Street, Ohakune, residence yesterday. • Ohakune and National Park Police worked in tandem to apprehend the person responsible for the theft of a snowboard from Turoa Ski Resort yesterday. Ohakune Police' s skifield duty officer was alerted to the theft at around 3pm yesterday afternoon. He contacted town-based officers who were able to alert National Park authorities. The driver of the Hamiltonregistered vehicle was stopped at National Park
township, and faces charges related to the theft. Ohakune Police's Turoa patrols have proved highly successful as a deterrant to crime, with this, their fourth season on the slopes. Police have identified a number of problem areas on the mountain - namely around the lift queues and cafeteria areas - so devote their time to these areas. The move to the mountain was initiated in 1990 in an effort to deal with the increasing crime rate. The patrol made history with the country's first conviction for disorderly conduct arising from dangerous skiing.
