Ratana beats Raetihi

Raetihi started strong against Ratana on Saturday 17 July with a try scored in the first five minutes by C Wilson which was not
converted. Neither team scored for the next 15 minutes until Ratana half-back J Todd had a successful penalty kick taking the score to 5-3 to Raetihi after 20 minutes of play. Immediately after, Raetihi half-back B Kavanagh scored a try which was not converted. Ten minutes after Raetihi' s second try Raetihi full-back A McCann kicked a successful penalty making the score 13-3 to Raetihi after 30 minutes of play. Just before halftime Ratana full-back D Rawhiti scored their first try of the game which was converted by J Todd. The half-time score was 13-10 to Raetihi. In the first two minutes of the second-half Ratana was awarded a penalty which was successfully kicked by J Todd who with that kick
reached 100 points this season. Four minutes later C Wilson scored his second try of the game for Raetihi taking the score to 18-13 to Raetihi. Ratana player C Mete was sin-binned 15 minutes into the secondhalf. Straight after he was sin-binned Raetihi lost possession of the ball which enabled D Rawhiti of Ratana to score his second try of the game. The try was not converted making the score 18-all. Raetihi managed to keep Ratana at bay for the next ten minutes but another successful penalty kick by J Todd put Ratana in front 2118. A few minutes later R Mason Snr. scored a try for Ratana which was not converted. R Ropata scored a try which was converted by J Todd taking the score to 33-18 to Ratana with five minutes remaining.
In the last minute of the game Ratana player R Ropata scored another try which was not converted making the fulltime score 38-18 to Ratana. The player that stood out for Ratana was R Ropata who made some good breaks and Raetihi full-back had safe-hands on the high balls. Raetihi: Tries - C Wilson two, B Kavanagh one; Penalty A McCann. Ratana: Tries - D Rawhiti two, R Ropata two, R Mason Snr. one; conversions - J Todd two; penalties - J Todd three. NETBALL Netball has been fortunate this season with the weather. Games were late starting on Saturday as two early games had no umpires. There are just three Saturdays left for competition, with closing day being held on Saturday 14 August.
