Supermarket celebrates

The winners were selected after a year-long programme which included a confidential survey by independent assessors. Each store was rated for cleanliness and presentation, staff dress and grooming, and service and facilities. This information will be made available to the stores so they can check their own performance. The awards were presented by the Managing Director of Foodstuffs (Wellington), Richard Reilly. and Geoff Shaw from A C Nielsen Limited, the official adjudicators.

Mr Reilly said the programme had been designed to improve the standard of service and presentation in all New World stores and to provide an incentive for both staff and owners. A total of 22 prizes were awarded including trophies, plaques and, in some cases, a full week's wage for all full and part-time staff.

Ohakune New World was judged the best store in its division at the recent New World Conference in New Plymouth. Owner/operators, Alan and Karen Murdie, were among the six top winners in the Foodstuffs (Wellington) area, which covers the lower half of the North Island.
