Have you ever needed someone to step in, in, time of an illness, accident, emergency, relative time-out from children or dependants? The Stand By Association of Waimarino is an Association which steps in, in the event of an accident, emergency or crisis. The Stand By
Association of Waimarino is referred to by its common name, 'Stand By'. The main object of Stand By is to provide relieving practical help and assistance in the home, in the widest sense, within the New Zealand community in cases of deserving need. The Association is a non-profit organisation formed to provide as-
sistance within New Zealand. Stand By was set up to support individuals and families in an emergency situation and times of family or personal crisis. Stand By members care for children and do household duties in the cases of illness, for the elderly in cases of accident or emergency and help support people
who are caring for dependent relatives at home. The Association is available to all age groups as the needs arise. It provides a very valuable service to the people in this isolated rural community and helps people cope within their own home environment and relieves the stressful situation.
Stand By employs paid helpers and they need the help of the community to direct that help. Even though the meetings are held in Raetihi, Stand By works for the whole of the Waimarino. The Stand By Association of Waimarino AGM has had to be postponed until 2pm Tuesday 13 July
due to insufficient support from the community. "It would be really appreciated if people of the community would come along and help administer this charitable trust just by being present as a caring Waimarinoite," said Stand By secretary Noliene Bishop. "We need to spread the word that help can
be arranged. There is no fund-raising involved and the meetings are once every two months on a Wednesday at 2pm," Noeline said. The Waimarino area is over one hour's driving time away from the nearest town with major support services, so without Stand By people in this area would have limited access to support services '
