Trees for Goldfinch Street
Three cherry trees in Goldfinch are to be removed and replaced with Norway Spruce and gleditsia. The Waimarino Community Board agreed last Thursday that the cherry trees which are in a poor state should be removed. The Ohakune Retailers Association asked the council for approval for a tree planting project, offering to spend $2000 on trees in the area. The group offered to carry out the work using trees of the council's choice and under the direction of council's reserves staff. The area chosen is beTurn to page 2

From page 1 tween Ayr and Wye Streets, but if it is successful it may be extended to other parts of the town. Board member Ellen Gould moved that the proposal be approved, but said she was sad to see the cherry trees removed. She said they were in poor condition. "They have been vandalised so many times it's amazing they have survived." She said they were only pretty for a few weeks a year, when they were in blossom.
