"Sophisticated" use of credit card
Lorna Marie Thompson, 20, solo parent of Pipiriki, appeared for sentence on two charges of fraud involving a Westpac Bank
cheque and a Trust Bank Cashflow card on 23 and 24 April. In passing a sentence of 120 hours community service Judge Watson said that the offence, which originated in Christchurch, had
demonstrated a degree of sophistication which surprised him. "You were obviously under the influence of so-called 'friends' who advised you to use a credit card in a fraudulent way which even I did not know was possible", he said. Thompson received a concurrent sentence for breach of parole. Counsel: Paul Brown.
