I Crazy competitions for Carrot Christmas

A variety of zany activities and crazy competitions are planned to celebrate the Ohakune Carrot's birthday next week. From Monday 5 July through to Sunday, Ohakune businesses will be joining in the festivities with decorated windows and special deals in-store. The carrot-cum-Christmas theme is also echoed in the numerous, extremely imaginative competitions and events running throughout the week. The Ruapehu Homestead is running horse and cart and pony rides all next week. There will also be an ongoing poster competition (children up to 8 years, and 9-13 years) and story time at the Ohakune Public Library throughout the week. • Monday - carrot
bagging competition: competitors in the Ohakune New Worldsponsored event will be required to bag 3kg of carrots in a specified time. • • Tuesday - catch the egg competition: another New World event, $100 prize money is up for grabs. Entries for the carrot sculpting contest must be in by Tuesday, with the winner announced on Saturday (sponsored by Ohakune Hotel). • Wednesday - bread eating contest (sponsored by Ohakune New World.). Sumptuous Christmas dinner at Cleches: cost $22.50 per head. Bookings are essential. • Thursday - children * s Mad Hatter's competition (children up to 8 years, and 9-13 years); name the reindeer contest, all week, for children under 12 (sponsored by the BNZ).
• Friday - carrot cake competition: the search is on for the biggest, best carrot cake, with the winner taking home a $50 voucher from Virtuosity; pet show. • Saturday - Market Day, with competitions and static displays in Baker's Mall and the BNZ car-park. Steinlager Blue winewaiter's race; Christmas pudding throw; aerobics display ; bucking bronco; face-painting; children's best costume - fairy, pixie or elf children up to 10 years (sponsored by Buck's Drapery). Static displays by the Department , of Conservation, Nissan, Ruapehu Scouts, St John's Ambulance, Police, and the ice-skat-ing rink committee will all be on display during the day. • Saturday night - Pot luck dinner at the Lion's Den, organised by
TASCI Ski Club. • Sunday - champagne breakfast, commencing 7am at Bee Dees; duck race after
breakfast. Entry fee $2 Ducks may be purchased from Berry's Bookshop (event sponsored by Bee Dee's).
