Electricorp to sponsor Ruapehu marketing
Ruapehu 's information centres and council district marketing are to be sponsored by the Electricity Corporation, to the tune of $240,000. 'The Ruapehu District Council and the Electricity Corporation have enteted into a joint venture to support the council's marketing functions and information centres" Garrick Workman, district mayor announced- last Thursday. As part of a three-year sponsorship arrangement worth up to $240,000 over a three year period, ECNZ will be helping fund the activities of the council's marketing function.
"This initiative will in turn support the whole community through the council's efforts to market the district as a desirable location for tourism, business and recreational purposes. It will be of considerable benefit to the region and we are pleased to be associated with the corporation in this innovative way," said Mr Workman. ECNZ Hydro group manager, Dennis Allan based at Tokaanu welcomed the arrangement. "The venture benefits both the corporation and the Ruapehu community. ECNZ is looking for effective ways of keeping the public in-
formed about a range of activities in which we are involved. People in the area are vitally interested in the Tongariro Power Scheme and the generation of electricity generally. This arrangement provides us with an effective method of keeping them up-to-date with developments. I was very pleased to be able to respond positively to an invitation from the Council's chief executive, Cliff Houston and his team to participate in this innovative venture," said Mr Allan. "In return for the sponsorship ECNZ will be offered several promotion opportunities,
in particular through the council's information centres at Taumarunui and Ohakune," said Mr Houston. Display space and name association will be taken up by the corporation who will use the opportunity to promote ECNZ's image." "The positive progress made in the area of marketing over the past 12 months will be further enhanced with this arrangement allowing specific marketing activities to be undertaken that will provide a positive result to the Ruapehu community". ECNZ's support to the Ruapehu District
Council will be acknowledged in a number of ways and it is proposed that the group manager will be appointed to the council's Promotion and Development Sub-com-mittee which acts as a policy adviser to the council. The. arrangement commences on 1 July 1993. "As apart of getting to know each other better, district councillors and staff have been invited on a visit to the Tongariro Power Scheme in two weeks time" said Mr Allan. This is the start to a very useful association."
