Winterfest
There 's plenty of happening things going on in the Ruapehu region, starting this Friday 2 July. The Primo Winterfest '93 officially kicks off on Friday, with most of the social events being staged at Taupo. In conjunction with the Winterfest, the Ubix Challenge is being run from Whakapapa Skifield. Competitors start at the top of the Bruce and finish at the Great Lake Centre, Taupo where the prize-giving is to be held. Whakapapa also hosts the Primo Fun Day on Sunday, with plenty of activities and £iveaways. Monday, and there' s still more fun activities on the slopes. Whakapapa hosts an apres ski party on Tuesday, then live music at the Whakapapa Tavem
and the Grand Chateau on Wednesday night. A variety of activities will be staged in both Turangi and Taupo every day during the week 3-11 July, including Taupo retailers shopping competitions, Wairakei Tourist Park activities, and live music and entertainment at venues around the region. A specialty event to be held on Saturday and Sunday 10-11 July, is the Pal husky racing championships, to be held on State Highway 5, near Taupo. There 's plenty happening for the kids too, including a teddy bear's picnic at Huka Village, a golf putting competition at the Wairakei International Golf Course, and a children' s fishing day on Sunday 11 July, on SH1, south of Turangi.
