College Soccer

Wanganui's East Athletic Raiders played Ruapehu College in Ohakune on Saturday 19 June. Having already beaten the College side earlier in the season and winning all their other first round games they were always going to be a difficult side to beat. Whilst starting off a little tentatively, the College side held their own for much of the first half. Shortly after an injury break however, with only ten minutes left in the half Raiders caught the defence napping and scored. With the confidence of going one ahead Raiders piled on the pressure to score twice more in the last five minutes of the half. Both sides continued to play some of the best junior football seen at the College field in the second half. Raiders made the most of their many opportunities scoring four further goals with Ruapehu unable to find the net. Although losing seven-nil Ruapehu came away from the game happy with there efforts against a side which contained ten Wanganui Under 16 representative players. Raiders head for Australia the weekend after next where their itinerary includes nine matches including one representative match in Sydney. They will play one further game against Ruapehu on Saturday 24 July again at Ohakune. Draw for Saturday 26th June: Ruapehu College vs Collegiate Rangers at Ruapehu College - kick off 1.30pm
