A 21 -month old Waiouru boy owes his life to the quick action of his mother and Waiouru Military Hospital's emergency team, when he technically drowned in a small stream on the weekend. Leslie Tamahaia Skinner is recovering in Wanganui Hospital after drowning in a stream be-
hind his Laing Lane home at around 1pm on Saturday. He was found by his mother, face down and unconscious in the water. He was flown to Wanganui Hospital by rescue helicopter and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. Waiouru Police said Turn to page 2

From page 1 the incident highlights the dangers facing young children from water sources, including small streams, lakes and ponds. "All parents know that children at this age are right into exploring", said Constable Chris Scales. "Even a momentary lapse in attention with young children can have disasterous results."
